Your coffee may be harming you

There are many coffee companies that seem like a “great deal” when shopping based on price, but can be doing harm to your body and to our planet when looked at closer.

When choosing a coffee, many of us often overlook important factors such as sustainability practices, ethical practices, quality of the beans, and harmful chemicals such as pesticides used on farms. How coffee is grown, picked, sorted, delivered and packaged effects the final product and ultimately our health.

Huge coffee brands that are commonly found on the store shelves but may be harmful include:

Dunkin Donuts
Keurig K-cups
Cafe Bustelo
Maxwell House

Although these brands may be cheap and convenient, you are getting a poor quality coffee. These coffee brands may contain one or many of the following: don’t offer an organic variety, they’re pre-ground (not fresh), reject sustainability, reject fair trade, contain chemicals, contain fungus, or send huge amounts of waste to landfills each year.

When shopping for coffee, knowing what to look for will ensure the coffee you are drinking will contribute to your health and planet, not harm it!

1.Look for Fair Trade coffee
These standards are run by a non-profit organization which encourage environmental sustainability, and ensure that the people involved in production were treated and compensated fairly. These certifications can either be listed on the front of the bag or listed on the company’s website. Ama Coffee is proudly fair traded and ethically sourced.

2.Choose Organic
Over 200 pesticides are used on non-organic grown coffee crops, one of the most heavily chemically treated crops of any agricultural commodity in the world. Most of us consume coffee on a regular basis so choosing coffee produced without the aid of artificial chemical substances, additives or some pesticides and herbicides are very important to our health. Organic coffee guarantees the cleanest coffee experience and is better for the environment. Ama Coffee organic coffee.
